Julie & Guy had told us about the Saturday Market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Knowing how much we loved markets, we decided to make a day of it.
We had originally thought we’d go from Oakland, Jack London Square, but Stevie said the view on the ride in from Larkspur was much nicer. Unseasonably warm sunny days continued.
Coming on to the Ferry building in San Francisco
The vegetable market was mobbed, and the stands were offering a wonderful assortment of veg, fruit, and ready to eat items. We saw a stand with what looked like a fantastic sandwich at Roti-Roti when we first arrived and decided we’d come back closer to lunch time to eat from there. Hah! When we returned the line was all the way down to dock with probably 100-150 people! Next time we’ll know better than wait.
Arriving in the morning with a view of Coit Tower
view as we left in the afternoon.
The new and the old Bay Bridge
I want to wish everyone that follows my blog a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Our family gathering in the Bay area was smaller than previous years as children that now have families of their own are starting to rotate attending. Last year we were 22.
This year we were 16 for visiting prior to dinner
Stevie traditionally carves the turkey.
Wonderful view of the bay from their kitchen.
And 12 for dinner
After dinner we played “guess the brocante item”. I brought 4 of the curiosity items from my blog for everyone to have a turn at a guess. Stephen, being in the medical industry, guessed the 1850s medical dosage spoon. I’d have to say for a moment, he was more taken with the spoon than Porche automobiles.
RG Canning puts on a Flea Market inside the Ventura County Fairgrounds about 7 times during the year. They’re pretty good and makes for an enjoyable outing. Even though this was the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving and we’d be leaving to go out of town for the annual family gathering, I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours away from the cooking preparations to attend.
It was a beautiful day with unseasonably warm temperatures.
This drawing really caught my eye
I found a few bits and pieces to make the trip worthwhile.
Some Beatrix Potter books and dinnerware and
2 very retro Pyrex mixing bowls with pour spouts.
