Our next project
When we sold JoLi’ so many people asked us what our “next adventure/project” would be. Joe’s choice was Net Result. Mine was JoLi’ and it looks like we have now decided on our next one…the house.
As I noted in my previous post of having moved in, the kitchen is much too small for my cooking priorities as well as the sun room was (note the tense) an eye-sore. We had put an offer in on a house that had the same original floor plan as our but that had been expanded to a kitchen and dining area of my dreams. Obviously we were skunked in our offer. But that actually worked out perfectly, as this house is so much better for lots of reasons. Except for the fact that we needed to “deal” with the tacky sun room and impossibly small kitchen. Because our house was a FSBO (For sale by owner) we had breathing room to do the necessary changes to the house.
After contacting a couple of contractors for bids, we chose one that proudly showed us his recent projects, one coincidentally was an expansion of the same floor plan as our but a little different, perhaps more modern approach to the extension. He’s handling all the permits (which there are loads not only building, but demolition, Cal-green and more) which is the right way to do the job of this size. His contract states, weather permitting, that the project will be completed within 120 days. I’ll share the designers plans here once he’s completed them. But basically the sun room comes down, duh. Then about 12 feet will be added on to the existing exterior wall of the kitchen. Sliding glass doors with 4 transom windows above to let in more light. A new kitchen which will be open, open, open with a double wide counter opening on to the dining area.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Today was day one of the demolition. They only worked a couple of hours because temperatures were over 100 degrees but just seeing the eye-sore disappear is very exciting.
While all this preparation and bidding had been going on, we have been busy making the house our own. The entire interior of the house was freshly painted in boring bone. I mean everywhere you looked was bone.
Here’s what we did to our bedroom:
More photos as they come.
Stay tuned.
